"As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
This is Saint Paul’s farewell letter to his dear, dear disciple and brother in the Lord, Timothy. Paul realizes his life has been literally poured out for the sake of others who would come to Jesus and receive him as their Savior and follow Him as their Lord. It has been a fight and he has fought it and finished his course. Paul proclaims boldly, “I have kept the faith." Then he goes on to declare the reward for having fought the fight, finished the race and kept the faith. A crown of righteousness from Jesus is his reward.
Could you and I make this statement? Why? Or, why not?
I am looking forward to seeing you Sunday for worship. I hope you can make it! Our three-week class on the Book of Second Thessalonians will begin around 11 a.m., after the coffee fellowship.
Blessings and love in Jesus, Gerry
